Flour crisis feared in Punjab and Islamabad

Flour crisis has been feared in Punjab, Islamabad and Rawalpindi after the announcement of strike by the Flour Mills Association.

The association has announced a strike in Rawalpindi and Islamabad on Monday and across the province on Tuesday.

Flum Mills has decided not to take wheat from government warehouses in South Punjab. Carrying wheat from South Punjab will increase the cost of flour bag by Rs. 85.

The Punjab government has accused the flour mills of creating an artificial crisis. The food department has said that the mills have to raise 25 per cent quota of wheat from surplus districts.

The Flour Mills Association has claimed that the food department has stopped the supply of wheat, which could lead to a serious wheat crisis in Rawalpindi and Islamabad which would spread across the province.

Punjab Food Department says there is no shortage of wheat in the province, some mill owners want to create artificial crisis.
