A four-year-old girl was allegedly raped by a 22-year-old man and thrown into bushes after trying to strangle her to death in the Khandwa district of Madhya Pradesh.

The boy, who was found unconscious in the bushes on Monday, is receiving treatment at an Indore hospital.

The incident came to light after the boy was reported missing around 8:30 am Monday, police said.

During the investigation, police zeroed in on a man, identified as Rajkumar Singh, who was working as a waiter at a nearby dhaba. On Sunday night, Singh, who was from the same tribal community as the girl, visited his home to borrow a cot.

Singh slept 100 meters from the girl’s house and drunkenly kidnapped the girl while she slept.

speaking to the indian expressKhandwa Police Superintendent Vivek Singh said: “During interrogation, Rajkumar admitted to kidnapping the girl and raping her before leaving her in the bushes approximately 1.5 km from her home.”

The girl received treatment at Khandwa District Hospital, before being transferred to MY Hospital in Indore.

According to the police, the defendant also alleged the involvement of another person in the crime, but this was found to be a lie.

A case was first registered under section 363 (kidnapping) of the IPC, but later sections 307 (attempted murder), 376 (rape) and relevant provisions of the Protection of Children Against Sexual Offenses Act (POCSO) were added.

Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, who was in Indore, instructed the IG and Commissioner Indore to ensure the most severe punishment for the accused. “Malicious elements that damage the honor of daughters must be severely punished. The criminals involved in such incidents do not deserve forgiveness. Such items should not be spared,” Chouhan said.
